You can turn your Windows-based computer into a wireless router and other computers will be able to connect directly to your PC and share an Internet connection by creating an Ad-Hoc network or a hosted network. These specific types of network skip the need for a wireless router altogether. Instead, your computer acts as the router and uses your wireless card to share its available broadband Internet connection.
Instructions on hot to create an AD-HOC network:
- Click "Start," "Control Panel" and then click "Network and Sharing Center."
- Click "Set up a new connection," then click "Set up a wireless ad-hoc.
- Type a name for your wireless ad-hoc into the "Set up a wireless ad-hoc" window on screen. Click "Finish" to create your wireless ad-hoc, effectively turning your computer into a wireless router.
Instructions on how to create a hosted network:- Go to 'Start' button and click it.
- in the 'run' or 'search' box type 'cmd'
- right click 'cmd' and click 'Run As Administrator'
- you will be asked to accept or deny the action and click 'Yes'
- A command prompt box will appear and type the following:
the command will run and you will see text like this:
The hosted network mode has been set to allow.
The SSID of the hosted network has been successfully changed.
The user key passphrase of the hosted network has been successfully changed.
You are almost there. then you type:
netsh wlan start hostednetwork
You will the see text like this:
The hosted network started.
You have created a network. Now you have to enable Internet sharing.
FOLLOW THESE STEPS CLOSELY:
Go to 'Network Sharing Center' in your Control Panel.
Click next to connections under the main Internet Connection(see picture below. Area highlighted in yellow)
A window will pop up and click on 'properties' see picture below. Area highlighted in yellow.
After clicking 'properties' a window will pop up and click on 'Sharing' see picture below. Area highlighted in yellow.
Now click on 'Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet Connection.' and choose the 'Local Connection' for your New network. see picture below. Areas highlighted in yellow.
Now click 'Ok' button and you're done. what's left if for you to connect your phone or another PC to this network and browse the internet.
